Boston based heavies the Hold Steady has come up with the fifth album “Heaven is whenever” that is characterized by special niche customary to them. As usual the front man Craig Finn has maintained a narrative style as he continues with conversation over the songs. Such conversation is not something that is out of the way but a part of the flow or recitation of the song.
Over the years they have created a big base of loyal fans those rather than being pretentious are real fans fond of their idols. Rooted in sympathy as well as affection for the anti-social and so called bad elements in the world and those that are born as Christians again and those people whose life stories they interconnect through their songs and unravel them.

Changes that have been affected in their latest album are that it is without the customary key board specialist, accordionist, and supplier Franz Nicolay. Leading to return to rough and improvised feel of Hold Steady’s primary three albums, stay on the level in which they are writing songs for the audience and effect. On the other hand their fourth album seems a bit overblown and yet creates a positive aura.

Reason is that for the first time Craig Finn took vocal coaching and dropped his earlier trademark of vocal style of sounding. At times that was becoming irritating rather than becoming tuneful. Of course the music style has always been impressive but it lacked the great fun that is the hallmark of the successful music albums.

Both the excitement as well as the thrills of being dragged along a druggy and messed up roads that are traded by lower level people has been replaced in the current album with mature senses of impending doom. Age has brought up some senses in Craig and in the process he takes the path of precautionary tales. Recklessness thus is replaced by repentance in the new album.

For new listeners it is a good album as it combines strong singles with religion inflicted lyrics and belligerent choruses. Seo India
